>>Ojén is a picturesque white village located in the mountains just 15 minutes from Marbella.

Ojén is located 10 kilometres northeast of Marbella, on the inland road that linked with Malaga. Located next to the Arroyo de Almadán, in a very peaceful place rich in water, you will discover this village of white houses surrounded by the Blanca and Alpujata mountain ranges.

Legend has it that only Pedro Morales knew the exact formula of the Ojen brandy that was found in the aromatic herbs that he added to the liqueur. During this point in the production process he ordered the distillery workers to leave and when he was alone he added his secrets. Pedro Morales died and left the recipe to his son. The latter, in turn, died in an accident being the sole depository of the secret of the anise of Ojén, thus losing its manufacture in history. At the beginning of the 70s of the last century, Juan Espada Fernández tried, unsuccessfully, to return that famous brandy to the people by creating a factory.

The fame of Ojen as a brandy remains in the memory and in the literary and artistic references about it: Camilo José Cela mentions it on several occasions in La Colmena "he smokes 90 tobacco, when he is alone, and drinks ojén, good glasses of ojén, from the moment he gets up until he goes to bed". Anita Delgado, an artist from Malaga of the time and married to the majarajá of Kapurtala, used to ask for a glass of ojén in Paris. Picasso in his Cubist era immortalized the bottle of brandy with the legend of Ojén in his painting "Spanish Still Life" of 1912.

Today, the tradition of the famous brandy is reflected in the tasty "raisins in brandy", a culinary richness of the town of Ojén, typical for the winter season. They can be tasted and purchased at the Mill Museum in Ojén and also tasted during the Popular Tostón Festival. In one of the rooms of the Mill Museum is the Aguardiente Museum with a series of information panels with the history of this famous liquor and its legend, with photographs of labels from all corners of the planet, posters, awards, old containers and one of the few bottles that still contains the Ojén brandy.
